Hair-On Cow Hide Chips from Ugly Chews come in a 2 oz bag of 2-3 pieces of all natural, sun dried cow hide pieces (approximately 3-6” long and various widths and thickesses, with fur). These pieces are a great size for smaller dogs (15 lbs and under) as well as cats. These hide chips are an all natural, healthy chew/treat (a MUCH better alternative to rawhide, which is full of chemicals) because they contain fur and hide which are high in fiber for digestive health and stool structure.
These 100% natural beef hides are sourced from local ranches in Wyoming, Utah and Idaho; no factory farms here! There are NO chemicals or soaps used in the washing of the hides; just water at various pressures and angles for a long time to make sure the hides are left fresh and clean, ready to be transformed into chews. Once the hides are all clean, they are hand cut (using a knife!), then they are rolled and put out onto racks in the direct sunlight to dry. This step is super important in order to keep these chews additive and chemical free. In addition, studies have shown that direct exposure to the UV radiation in sunlight also kills bacteria. Each chew spends at least three days in direct sunlight, being rotated to make sure the entire chew is disinfected and dried. While this process is time-consuming, it allows them to create an all-natural chew without any chemicals, additives, or preservatives, while still providing a near infinite shelf-life to the final product.
Because these hide chips are inconsistent and come in an assortment of sizes, please use caution. Make sure treats are an appropriate size and condition for your dog and throw out end pieces as soon as they are small enough for your dog to swallow them. There is a risk of potential blockage or intestinal irritation if large chunks are swallowed. It's important to provide your dog with the appropriately sized treats, and to monitor chew times. Always consult your veterinarian with any questions or concerns about your dogs digestion or health.
